It is what keeps us up at night; gets us arguing and debating; testing, retesting; criticizing & questioning everything we thought we knew until finally, we have a product that survived the gauntlet. This is what we present to you, the rider.
Digital Composite Design
Our innovative processes
In theory these are each simple processes, but in application these are lifetimes of work. Developing a mastery in a host of critical disciplines beyond great ideas: iterative design & engineering, material selection, rapid digital prototyping, extensive testing and finally duplicating this exactly in our digital production processes. We know results are worth it, and if you’ve ever ridden any of our products, we believe you will agree.
The first step in the creation of a product is defining why something needs to be made, how we can bring something new to the customers, and what problems these solve.
We start from a completely blank space to rethink a product in the design lab.
We spend time testing, connecting with riders around the world and immersing ourselves into what kiteboarding will look like in 10 years. We then chase that idea immediately and constantly.
From the concept through progressive evolutions of each product, we take feedback andplug it into the next round of development.
All kite and board design software at Airush is purpose built, or customized, parametric design software that allows us to refine each specific detail of a prototype.
We go to work taking that next concept and plugging it into our prototype process as soon as possible.
Often perceived as the most fun part of the process, effective product testing requires a relentless approach that constantly feeds back into the iterative design process.
A single prototype may be retested 10 times in a variety of conditions, with constant tweaks and upgrades.
This endures until we have exhausted all options from that product and squeezed the absolute best out of it.
At Airush our processes require an almost singular pursuit for each model – a key development rider will sometimes spend a few years refining a single kite and board model.
Obsession with the mastery of the digital design space comes to nothing without the ability to duplicate that proficiency in production.
Traditionally, production products have been viewed as a step down from a custom product, but our processes have been developed to turn that idea on its head. The exact file and construction, approved by our development team, is used to duplicate the final product into production. Kites are laser cut, boards and foils are precision CNC cut, to enable us to work within sub-millimeter tolerances to duplicate the exact product every single time.
“We hire smart people, who have a diverse range of interests. Ideas are often taken from proven engineering concepts and applied to our industry.”
